Art Pearls

My journey in search of pearls through painting and drawing

After seeing my self-portrait, my sweet cousin expressed interest in having her portrait drawn. So here it is. I drew this using one of her photo as a reference. It was taken just a few hours before her marriage. She might have felt quite different that day. I liked the simplicity and elegance in how she looked in the photo…and I have a weakness for  mundum neriyathum set.

Waterlily Series No.3

Here is the third in my series of waterlily painting. It took me almost a week to complete the painting. Usually I could complete this painting in two days but I was distracted by so many things during the process. I did not stretch the watercolor paper this time because again I was painting with distraction. Taking that factor into consideration, it turned out well. What do you say?

Self-Portrait Revised

with 3 comments

Okay, here is my revised version of the previous portrait. This is more like how I want it to be. When I put this one up in my networking site as my profile pic, my dear ones were quick to comment,” nice sketch…but payayathaanu kollavunathu…”(meaning the older profile pic was better)!!! How I love their honest comments! I really enjoyed doing this self-portrait. By the way, I have put my first self-portrait as the original profile picture.

If you study this picture carefully, you will notice that I have only done minor changes on the face. Now the “yuck!” expression is gone for sure. I used only a 0.7mm mechanical pencil to do this portrait.

Self-Portrait Series No.3

I just can’t help but laugh when I see this portrait of yours truly. I am supposed to have a smug smile instead I get an “uugh” look! Sometimes scanning your drawings can help you see them in a different perspective. This self-portrait closely resembles me. I am happy with the outcome. I guess I may have to adjust the value here and there to get that smiling look. I believe you need to be comfortable with yourself when you draw every single lines and dark circles in your face while attempting to draw a realistic self-portrait. Well, you can cheat too. That is the other side of the coin.

Status : Incomplete and abandoned. 😦

I got this famous picture from a coloring book of Hare Krishna publication that I got many years back. Painting this picture was very overwhelming and I felt like I could not bring any justice to this painting. It was really disheartening. Painting the gold jewellery killed all the enthusiasm I had while working on this picture. I guess I have just found out my weakness in watercolor painting.
